Ionizing radiation influence on some synthetic nano phosphor materials to be used as thermoluminescence detectors

Radiation detectors, are important instruments used in all branches of sciences in which ionizing radiations is applied. The growing needs of highly sensitive, good quality new dosimeters led to many appreciable research studies. During the last decades, there have been extensive researches on the use of thermoluminescence detectors (TLDs) in the field of radiations dosimetry. In this work, new nano phosphor materials of APL5 and APB6 were prepared using different impurity concentrations. Co precipitations method at room temperature was used in the preparation process. The prepared nano phosphors were characterized via X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HR-TEM) to confirm the existence of nanoparticles. The thermoluminescence (TL) properties of samples were extensively studied, where the APL5 samples of 5 wt% Li+ and APB6 of 6 wt% Ba2+ showed considerable TL characterizations. All the studied samples were subjected to an optimum thermal annealing of 500 Degree Celsius C for 1h and a heating rate of 5 Degree Celsius C/s was applied. The TL response of APL5 and APB6 nano phosphors exhibited the highest value in comparison with those of other compositions. The glow curve of APL5 nano phosphor, recorded at 5 degree Celsius C/s heating rate displayed a simple structure having glow peaks centered at about 222 and 279 degree Celsius C. The TL characterizations of APL5 sample revealed good linear dose response (R2 0.998) over a range from 15 to 100 Gy with good reproducibility and MDD value. The APB6 glow curve showed two glow peaks centered at about 151 and 249 Degree Celsius C. The TL response curve of APB6 sample revealed a good linear dose dependence (R2 = 0.9925) over a range from 15 to 100 Gy with good reproducibility.Finally, the APL5 and APB6 nano phosphor systems showed good stability behavior with low fading rate of about 19% and 26% respectively within a 2 month of storage at room temperature. These excellent properties of such prepared samples offered the preference of using these novel synthesized nano phosphor materials in various photonic dosimetrical applications as gamma radiation detectors
