Description

Analyses were carried out to determine the radioactivity in various foodstuffs in 1983, both nationwide and regionally around the nuclear power stations at Loviisa and Olkiluoto. Foodstuff samples were analysed for 89Sr and 90Sr as well as 137Cs and other gamma-emitting nuclides. The levels of 90Sr and 137Cs in agricultural products and fish varied in the region of those of 1982. No fresh fallout was detectable in foodstuff samples in 1983. The dietary intake of 90Sr and 137Cs by adult Finns was 0.2 Bq 90Sr/d and 0.7 Bq 137Cs/d. The dose equivalent commitments from annual ingestion were 10 μSv from 90Sr to bone marrow and 3 μSv from 137Cs to the whole body
