Analysis of potassium, uranium and thorium by gamma spectrometry
Description
The objective of this experiment is to study the method of quantitative analysis of potassium, uranium and thorium in samples by measuring gamma-ray with a NaI(Tl) welled type detector, after that the elements of K, U and Th respectively will be considered from the gamma spectra. The method was checked by using feldspar from Denmark. The samples used are potash, sandstone and feldspar. In potash, there are 3.177 - 12.773% of K or 3.827-15.386% of K2 O, 9.091-16.710 ppm of U or 0.001-0.002% of U3 O8 and 8.100-20.562 ppm of Th or 0.001-0.002% of Th O2. In sandstone, there are 2.152-3.890% of K or 2.592-4.686% of K2 O, 61.526-1133.402 ppm of U or 0.007-0.134% of U3 O8 and 5.462-47.796 ppm of Th or 0.001-0.005% of Th O2. In feldspar, there are 6.844% of K or 8.244% of K2 O, 11.689 ppm of U or 0.001% of U3 O8 and 6.609 ppm of Th or 0.001% of Th O2
