Frequency domain approach to seismic analysis of multiple supported secondary systems
Description
Application of frequency domain approach is demonstrated through a simple example in which the problem of determining the seismic response of a secondary system within a primary structure is considered. The results obtained from the proposed method are compared with the time history results. The proposed method eliminates the need for developing the intermediate time histories at various anchor points of the secondary system and does not require time integration of various support time histories; thus, it has significant potential for analysis cost savings for large secondary systems. 6 refs
