Magnetic properties of C14 Laves phase Ti(Fe1-xTx)2 with T=Mn, Co and Ni (x=<0.6)

Description
The C14 Laves phase TiFe2 is an antiferromagnet with a Neel temperature of about 285K. The magnetic properties and the phase diagrams of Mn, Co and Ni substituted systems for Fe in TiFe2 have been investigated using magnetization measurements and NMR studies of 55Mn and 59Co nuclei. The antiferromagnetism in TiFe2 is simply suppressed by the Co and Ni substitutions. In the Mn case, though the antiferromagnetism is suppressed as well, spontaneous magnetization appears in 0.125=<x=<0.2 at low temperatures under the antiferromagnetic order, which is similar to the previously reported Cr substituted case. Together with the previously reported results, the origins of the difference of the magnetic change in TiFe2 by V, Cr, Mn, Co, and Ni substitutions are discussed, where the change is seen to correlate with the position of the substitutents
