Options of LLW volume reduction in Loviisa NPP
Description
The Loviisa NPP consists of two 465 MWe PWRs. Loviisa 1 was commissioned in 1977 and Loviisa 2 in 1980. Excellent experience has been gained in nuclear waste management. By 1 January 1988 some 104 m3 of spent ion exchange resins and some 380 m3 of evaporator concentrates in liquid form have been accumulated. Some 590 m3 of dry solid waste have been packed into standard steel drums. Intensive research is carried out to minimize waste volumes to be disposed of in the rock cavities in the bedrock of the power plant site
