Description
This device (to be installed in large numbers) controls the output of a nuclear reactor by more or less deep insertion of two different neutron-absorbing elements by only one drive. A boron-containing tube is lowered in a channel of the reactor core as a strongly neutron-absorbing element. A rod of about half the tube diameter and of less neutron-absorbing steel is coaxially movable in this tube. During movement this absorber rod is taken through a piston shaped superimposed flange at the top, and through a hole in the tube floor at the bottom. The flange has sufficient play in the tube and so does the rod in the hole. For a 1000 MWsub(e) reactor, an 8 metre long tube made of stainless steel has 6mm thick cans made of 4% boron steel of about 15 cm diameter. The absorber rod of the same length and 8 cm diameter consists of stainless steel. (HP)

Diese (in groesserer Zahl einzubauende) Vorrichtung steuert die Leistung eines Kernreaktors durch mehr oder weniger tiefes Eintauchen zweier verschiedener Neutronen absorbierender Elemente mittels nur eines Antriebs. Als stark Neutronen absorbierendes Element wird ein Bor enthaltendes Rohr in einen Kanal des Reaktorkerns abgesenkt. In diesem Rohr ist ein Stab von etwa halbem Rohrdurchmesser und weniger Neutronen absorbierendem Stahl koaxial verschieblich. Bei seiner Bewegung wird dieser Absorberstab oben durch einen aufgesetzten kolbenartigen Flansch, unten durch eine Bohrung im Rohrboden gefuehrt. Der Flansch hat im Rohr und die Stange in der Bohrung hinreichend Spiel. Fuer einen 1000 MWsub(e)-Reaktor enthaelt ein 8 m langes Rohr aus rostfreiem Stahl etwa 6 mm starke Huelsen aus 4%-igem Borstahl mit etwa 15 cm Durchmesser.
