Cargo Screening by Tagged Neutron Beams: Tests at the Port of Rijeka

Description

The EURITRACK Consortium developed a system to search maritime containers for the presence of illicit materials, mainly explosives. The device consists of a portal hosting a portable D+T neutron generator of the ''associated particle'' type, capable of delivering simultaneously 64 tagged neutron beams defining an average voxel of about 30 litres inside the inspected container. About 20 high efficiency NaI gamma detectors are placed on the portal surrounding the inspected container. The system has been assembled in Saclay (France) and underwent laboratory tests, and then it was transported and installed at the Customs area of the Port of Rijeka (Croatia). In this contribution the results of some tests performed on real containers in this last phase will be reported. (author)
