Data on the discriminating capablity of bovine organism for 137cesium that influences the radioactive contamination of milk
Description
Discriminating capability of bovine organism for Cs was studied by analysing the 137Cs and inactive Cs contents of fodder and milk specimens collected in Gyoer-Sopron county, Hungary. 137Cs/K and Cs/K values of the milk have been found comparable with those of fodder, thus, in contrast to the experiences obtained with Sr, the discriminating capability for Cs when its excretion by the milk is considered, is out of question. The value of discriminating factor is 1.0, so the relative concentration of Cs does not change. Because the animal organisms discriminate well for Sr, and the 137Cs and 90Sr contaminations of fodders are similar, the majority of radioactive contaminations of animal tissues and those of foods of animal origin may be attributed to the 137Cs activity.
