Quality control by legislation

  • 1. Picker Corp., Cleveland

Description

Provisions of the Radiation Control for Health and Safety Act of 1968 are described and proposed additional legislation dealing with electrical and mechanical hazards is considered. The administration of the Act by the Bureau of Radiological Health is discussed with regard to collimator performance standards. It is pointed out that the cumulative effect of further efforts to legislate quality control on cost, convenience, and reliability of x-ray and other electromedical apparatus should be weighed in comparison with the practical benefits as each additional regulation is proposed.
