Nuclear power inevitable-Sibiya

It is the opinion of the nuclear scientist, Dr Gordon Sibiya, that South Africa will have no alternative but to become part of international technological efforts to develop the vast energy potential locked in nuclear power. Projections show that within the next 100 years the world will have significantly depleted its fossil fuel resources and there will be a tremendous impetus towards nuclear power. There is a need for a special monitoring professional body to make recommendations on energy planning in South Africa. According to Sibiya there is no other viable long term option other than nuclear power. He concludes that a future without nuclear power is too sad to contemplate
