Description
A new absorption spectroscopy system in which two parallel linacs were used, was reported at the last conference. In the system, one linac of the two is used as an irradiation source and the other is used as Cherenkov light source. Both of these linacs can accelerate very short electron pulses with a width of 10 ps. Time profile of transient species produced by irradiation can be obtained with a time resolution of 20 ps using this system. We call this new absorption spectroscopy system the Twin Linac Pulse Radiolysis System. At the last conference, the proof of the principle was reported. Now the construction of the twin linac pulse radiolysis system has been carried out. Two linacs with energy of 18 and 28 MeV respectively have been constructed using one 35 MeV linac without attaching a new microwave source. Time needed for switching from the single 35 MeV linac to the twin linac system and its reset becomes very short. (orig.)
