Effects of granulopoiesis inhibiting factor on normal and irradiated mouse bone marrow CFU-GM in vitro

Description

The effects of granulopoiesis inhibiting factor (GIF) extracted from calf spleen were studied on normal and irradiated mouse bone marrow CFU-GM cultured in a semisolid agar. The results showed that the normal mouse bone marrow CFU-GM was inhibited by GIF and that this effect was dose dependent. The antagonistic effect between GIF and CSF on CFU-GM was found in the experiment. The GIF could protect the mouse bone marrow CFU-GM from radiation effect in vitro if the mouse bone marrow cells were incubated with GIF for a period of time before irradiation. The DRF (D37) and DRF (D0) were 1.31 and 1.35, respectively. With the preincubating time of two hours, this radioprotective effect was most pronounced. Adding GIF to the mouse bone marrow cells after irradiation, no protective effect was revealed
