New developments of 15N technique in the investigation of animal nitrogen metabolism

The activities of research and industry in the German Democratic Republic in the field of 15N application includes enrichment of 15N and synthesis of 15N labelled compounds, development of routine isotope analysis, and application of 15N in life sciences. Besides the classical mass spectrometric analysis, the emission spectrometric analysis of 15N by NOI-type and automatized 15N analyzers is demonstrated. Some examples of 15N application inimal and human nitrogen metabolism are discussed. Analytical schemes for determination of nitrogen and isotope nitrogen 15N in biological material and special conversion methods for different nitrogen compounds provide the fundament for 15N application in biological routine work.
