Determination of the uranium concentration in apatite by the fission - track registration technique
Description
The feasibility of using the fission-track registration technique to determine the uranium content in the phosphate rock beneficiation steps carried on by CompanhiA Arafertil, Araxa, Minas Gerais, Brazil is studied. This determination is of considerable interest to the environmental control of the Arafertil installations as well as of its surroundings or of the areas where these products will be used. The so called wet method was adopted and a 10 μm polycarbonate foil, fabricated by Bayer under the trade name Makrofol KG was used as detector. From the calibration curve obtained, it was possible to determine uranium contents in sample solutions ranging from 21 to 212 μg U/1 with an accuracy of 8 to 14.7%, respectively. The results obtained demonstrated that the technique used is appropriate to the purposes previously aimed at. (Author)

Estudou-se a viabilidade da aplicacao da tecnica do registro de tracos de fragmentos de fissao, na obtencao das concentracoes de uranio das etapas do beneficiamento da rocha fosfatica da Companhia Arafertil, localizada em Araxa, Minas Gerais. Adotou-se o metodo em solucao ('Wet Method'), utilizando-se como detector um policarbonato, com 10 μm de espessura, fabricado pela Bayer sob o nome comercial de Makrofol KG. Pela reta de calibracao obtida, conseguiu-se determinar concentracoes de uranio, no intervalo de 21 a 212 μg U/1 em solucoes de amostras, com um erro total variando entre 8% a 14,7%, respectivamente. A determinacao de uranio nas etapas de beneficiamento da rocha fosfatica e de consideravel interesse para o controle do meio ambiente nas instalacoes da Arafertil, em areas proximas a fabrica e nos locais onde serao utilizados esses produtos. De uma maneira geral, pode-se dizer que o metodo foi bastante conveniente aos objetivos pretendidos. (Autor)Files
