Phase diagram of the zirconium-osmium system

Description
The methods of metallographic and X-ray phase analyses have been used to study the structure of Zr-Os system alloys in the region 0-50 at% Os. Alloy initiation melting temperature has been determined by the methods of DTA, pirani-alterum and quenchings. It is shown that intermediate phases ZrOs and Zr11Os4 undergo incongruent melting at 2040 and 1350 deg C, respectively. The solubility of osmium in β-zirconium at the eutectic temperature 1270 deg C is about 14 at% and in α-zirconium - under 1 at% at 500 deg C. A phase diagram for the Zr-Os system in the entire concentration interval is presented
