Abadia de Goias repository: design conception

In this paper have been presented the criteria, the methodologies and the parameters that were utilized for the design of Abadia de Goias Repository. Hereby the purpose is to show in a succinct way the know how that has been acquired for the design of a LLW and ILW repository. This paper presents information and details concerning to the various phases of the design, beginning with the data collecting activity, the safety analysis elaboration up to the definition of the final concept of the repository and of the required infrastructure work. The safety analysis, based on the Cs-137 migration through the groundwater, made possible at first to determine the places of the repository site where the population is not allowed to drill wells. The analysis allowed also the institutional control period calculation based on the maximum concentration of Cs-137 in the aquifer as well as in the intrusion models.
