Description
Modified static exchange calculations for the low-energy elastic scattering of electrons by He, Ne and Ar atoms are presented in the energy range 0.1-20 eV based on Roothaan-Hartree-Fock atomic wavefunctions. The exchange interaction is included exactly, while the correlation, distortion and polarisation effects are accounted for by a parameter-free correlation-polarisation potential. By comparing the calculated results with the experimental data, it is concluded that the correlation-polarisation potential can represent the interactions not included in the static-exchange approximation adequately.
