The advanced pressurized water reactor - Meeting the energy needs of today and tomorrow

In today's world, increased demands for energy, coupled with concern for the environment, provide an opportunity for the further development of nuclear energy. Advanced pressurized water reactors (PWR) like the Westinghouse AP600 can help provide the world with secure, reliable electricity in an environmentally acceptable manner today, and well into the 21st century. With design simplification, emphasis on economics, modular construction, and enhanced safety, the advanced pressurized water reactor represents a prime energy source for both developed and developing nations through international cooperation. Continued improvements of the advanced PWR design will heild additional simplification. The solution to the safe disposal of radioactive waste exists and will eventually be implemented. The outstanding performance of today's light waste reactors, along with the deployment of advanced designs, promises to provide our nation and the world with clean, safe, nuclear energy
