Electronic structure of eulytine

  • 1. Ural Polytechnic Institute (USSR)

Description

Crystals of bismuth compounds display intense luminescence when they are excited by ultraviolet, X-ray, and γ radiation; therefore, they have found extensive application as scintillators. The interpretation of the optical spectra of these compounds is significantly simplified when theoretical diagrams of the MO's of the corresponding clusters are available. In this communication they present the results of calculations of eulytine (Bi4Si3O12) by the self-consistent scattered-wave Xα method, on the basis of which a conclusion is drawn regarding the composition of the valence band of this crystal
