Dosimetry of North India's first GRPF equipped with cold storage

  • 1. Radiation Safety Systems Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

M/s Solas Industries has setup North India's first Gamma Radiation Processing Facility (GRPF) equipped with cold storage in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. It is designed for source strength of 3000 kCi of Cobalt-60 with fully automatic and continuous irradiation of food and medical products. Food can be processed by radiation; only in those facilities which are recognized by AERB and licensed by DAE. Accordingly, dose verification exercise was performed using indigenously developed glutamine dosimeter. Overall variation in dose measured for identical positions by GRPF and BARC were found to be within ±10%. (author)
