Chemical reactions of recoil atoms generated by nuclear fission. Chapter 19

  • 1. Technische Univ. Muenchen, Garching (Germany, F.R.). Physik-Dept.

Description

The behaviour of both iodine and transition metal atoms recoiling into various catcher media following fission has been studied extensively. In the recoil chemistry of fission iodine organic catcher systems are used preferentially. These reactions are treated only briefly. The recoil synthesis of fission product labelled metal organic compounds, on the other hand, is surveyed more extensively and the possible mechanisms leading to molecule formation are discussed.
