High-mass dimuon and secondary J/ production at CMS as probes of medium-induced bottom quark energy loss in heavy-ion collisions

Description

The capability of the CMS detector to observe the rescattering and energy loss of heavy quarks in the dense matter created in heavy-ion collisions is discussed. We analyse the sensitivity of high-mass μ+μ- pairs from B B-bar semileptonic decays and secondary J/ψ's from single B decays to the medium-induced bottom quark energy loss. (author)
