Questionnaire survey of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant workers in 2016 on knowledge and anxiety about radiation

Description
The results of a survey of radiation workers suggest that they are worried about the effects of radiation exposure on health, and approximately 30% of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) workers have anxiety. This questionnaire survey reveals that the higher the frequency of radiation education, the higher the knowledge of radiation the workers will have, and that the higher the level of knowledge, the lower the anxiety. To reduce anxiety, it is important to increase knowledge about radiation through radiation education. However, even those workers who had radiation education several times still had anxiety. According to the Ordinance on the Prevention of Ionizing Radiation Hazards, the time spent on education about the effects of radiation on the human body is only about 30 minutes. This education is not enough to reduce anxiety. FDNPP workers needed more effective education to increase their knowledge and to reduce their anxiety. (author)

2011年に福島第一原子力発電所(原発)事故により,作業者は多くの放射線被ばくをしたため,放射線による影響が懸念された.近年においても,東電(東京電力ホールディングス株式会社)の調査で,福島原発作業者は約30%に放射線影響に対する不安が残存していると報告されている.放射線に対する不安を軽減するためには,放射線の教育を行い,知識が豊富になることが重要であると考えられる.そこで今回,福島原発作業員に対して,独自に準備した質問調査を用いて,放射線教育回数,放射線の知識及び放射線に対する不安に関して調査を行った.東電を通じ,東電職員並びに元請け企業に1,602部配布し,1,135部回収した(回収率70.8%).放射線教育回数が増加すると,放射線の知識が増え,放射線に対する不安は減少することが間接的にみられた.また年齢が高いと,様々な影響に対する不安が少なくなる傾向にあった.今回の調査結果では,放射線の知識を高めると,不安を軽減させる可能性があると考えられた.(著者)Additional details
