Accumulation of the radioactive nuclide 137Cs in fruitbodies of basidiomycetes
Description
The analysis of 137Cs in the fruitbodies of 12 species of Basidiomycete fungi is reported. Sufficient quantities of the material were collected to allow previously reported variability between the species to be quantified. The sensitivity of the equipment enabled measurement of activities as low as 5pCi. The large differences in 137Cs content/gm wgt between the different species are shown. A few samples contained gamma-emitting nuclide(s) other than 137Cs. (U.K.)
