A study of discography CT

Fifty intervertebral discs of 31 cases with lumbar disc lesion including lumbar disc herniation were examined CT scan after discography. On CT scan finding, three discs were normal, and 22 discs showed mild or moderate degeneration, and 25 discs showed severe degeneration. Disc herniation was found on 30 discs of total 50 discs. Fissure of anulus located on posteromedian in 20 discs of 30 discs with fissure. No apparent dominancy was found on location of the herniation between median and posterolateral. The findings were helpful in the diagnosis of herniation of severely degenerated intervertebral disc, median herniation and L5/S1 herniation. And they were valuable in determining surgical indication and method due to an accurate topographical understanding. (author)
