Spectrophotometric determination of ruthenium in nitroso complexes using photolysis

  • 1. Leningradskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ. (USSR)

Description

A spectrophotometric method has been worked out of determining ruthenium in nitroso complexes. The solutions of ruthenium nitroso complexes in 6 M HCl are irradiated with ultraviolet light, thiourea is added, and the absorbance is measured at 650 nm and 50 deg C. The range of ruthenium concentrations determined is between 0.8 and 3.5x10-4 g-ion/1. The standard deviation increases with addiation of nitric acid to the system irradiated. It has been established that concentration of ruthenium nitrosohalide complexes can be determined in a non-aqueous medium (e. g, in dimethyl sulphoxide) by the measurement of the absorbance of photolysis products in the visual region
