Special testing methods for elastic-plastic materials characterization

  • 1. Swiss Nuclear Safety Department, Wuerenlingen (Switzerland)

Description

The measurement of the load line displacement on compact tension specimens according to ASTM E 399 is discussed. Possibilities for the Ksub(Ic), Jsub(Ic) and deltasub(c) evaluation on the same specimen are shown. Measurement by extrapolation compared to calculation methods of delta is reported. Determination of initiation in general and by ultrasonics in particular on CT specimens at ambient and elevated temperatures is presented. Some pressure vessel burst tests and the effects of stress relief heat treatment are commented
