Study of oxygen distribution in niobium monocrystals using fast neutron activation method

Description

The method of activation by fast neutrons with 1.10-5% sensitivity was used to investigate oxygen distribution in single niobium crystals grown by electron zone melting. In contrast to investigations performed by traditional physico-chemical methods, it is shown that the mechanism of oxygen transfer from liquid niobium into vacuum remains constant within a wide range of 10-2 - 10-5%, concentrations while the transfer rate is controlled by the transport in the melt volume
