17O-Nuclear Magnetic Resonance study on the oxygen isotope effect of uranyl oxygen

  • 1. Tokyo Inst. of Tech. (Japan). Research Lab. for Nuclear Reactors

Description

The oxygen isotope effect of uranyl oxygens has been studied in various aqueous solutions by using 17O-NMR. The 17O-NMR spectrum of uranyl oxygens in acidic aqueous solutions containing enriched 17O and 18O consisted of three peaks, which are assigned to the signals of three isotope isomers, [17O = U = 16O]2+, [17O = U = 17O]2+, and [17O = U = 18O]2+, respectively. The chemical shifts of [17O = U = 17O]2+ and [17O = U = 18O]2+ from [17O = U = 16O]2+ have been calculated based on the nuclear magnetic shielding theory. The theoretical values agree surprisingly well with the observed chemical shifts. (author)
