Electron detachment from H- ions by proton impact

Description
The first Born approximation is employed to study the detachment of electrons from H- by proton impact. Attention is given to the sensitivity of the total and differential cross sections to the H- ground-state wavefunction used. The calculations are performed using 20- and 33-parameter correlated ground-state wavefunctions with polarised orbitals free-state functions. For the total cross section the first Born approximation is expected to provide accurate results for the process for impact energies greater than 100 keV; the results given by the 20- and 30-parameter functions differing by less than 10%. The differential cross section is found to be much more sensitive to the bound-state function and for low ejection energies the two ground-state functions give results differing by as much as a factor of two.
