Stabilization of discontinuity surfaces in magnetizable media by means of a nonuniform magnetic field

Description
Stability is considered of the interface between two magnetizable but electrically nonconducting fluids in a nonuniform magnetic field, with certain constraints imposed on the parameters of this field. The magnetic permeability /mu/ of each fluid is assumed to be constant. The body force acting on the medium from the magnetic field is then zero. Interaction of the magnetic field with the medium occurs through a Maxwell stress acting on the discontinuity surface. It is assumed, furthermore, that the fluids occupy the space between two parallel vertical planes. 5 refs
