Transient phenomena in nuclear fission

  • 1. Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre, Kolkata (India)

Description

The fission dynamics of hot nuclei can be viewed as a Brownian motion and hence is studied using the Langevin equation. In this work the effect of lowering the fission barrier on the time dependence of fission width is examined. The aim of this study is to find the transition from the diffusive process in the presence of fission barrier to the transient dominated 'single swoop' picture when there is no fission barrier Prescission neutron multiplicity calculated with dynamical model will also be compared with that obtained from a cascade calculation using parametrized time dependent fission width to find how well cascade calculation can represent the dynamical calculation
