Description
Clinical trail of the carbon-ion radiotherapy at HIMAC (Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba) was started at June 1994, and about 1300 patients have been treated until August 2002. Excellent clinical results are accumulated with high tumor control and less normal tissue morbidity. In this report, I review a historical progress of heavy-ion radiotherapy and introduce physical and technical aspects in the treatment system of HIMAC. (author)
