Evidence for phase separation in the Bi-Ca-Sr-Cu-O system

Description
A glass-crystallization route has been widely used to fabricate superconductors in the Bi-Ca-Sr-Cu-O system. The microstructure of a glass is important because it affects the nucleation and the crystallization processes during the crystallization of a glass. Glasses were prepared by mixing appropriate powders, melting and splat quenching. The resulting glass showed possible phase separation by XRD, DTA and TEM. The results of a detailed study of phase separation will be presented. In addition, the effect of phase separation on crystallization will also be discussed
