Neutron scattering study at high pressure of the phonon softening in lead
Description
The shift in the traverse phonon modes propagating along [zeta,0,0] and [zeta, zeta, zeta] in Pb have been measured up to pressures of 1.75 GPa (Δa/a0 approx. equal to -0.0125), and little change in the softening of the [zeta,0,0,] mode was observed. As the superconducting transition temperature and the electron-phonon coupling decrease substantially in this range, the relation of phonon softening to lambda in Pb-Tl alloys is questioned
