Description

The radiochronological study by U/Pb on zircons of the alkaline orthogneiss of Pedroso provides an emplacement age of 482 +- 16 Ma. This date of the Iberian Peninsula coincides with the main pre-Variscan phase of crustal thinning recognized in France in the ''Massif Central'' and in the ''Massif des Maures''. The comparison of this U-Pb age with previous Rb-Sr results on alkaline orthogneisses of the same province confirms the age provided by samples with 87Rb/86Sr ratios lower than 60 and indicates the opening of the Rb-Sr systems for whole rocks characterized by greater 87Rb/86Sr ratios.
