Resonant neutrino activation and neutrino oscillations
Description
Low Q value weak nuclear decays are considered which have two body final states (electron captures and bound state β decays, BSD). This permits an analogy with the Moessbauer effect, where the emitted (anti)neutrinos will resonantly activate daughter nuclei in a suitable absorber. Candidates for such a process are examined and the relevant solid state host problems are discussed. The authors point out that resonant line widths as large as the narrowest observed in Moessbauer spectroscopy suffice to greatly extend the sensitivity of nu (disappearance) oscillation experiments
