This short article introduces the topic of ionising and non-ionising forms of radiation and the public concern generated by them. A conference held in Brest, France, on the topic is mentioned and the various sources of ionising and non-ionising radiation such as mobile telephones, natural radon gas and the even the Sun itself are discussed
