Description
Pu(4) stabilization using electrochemically generated nitrous acid is studied. It is shown that in nitric acid solutions with [HNO3]=4 mole/l, [Ce]=5x10-2 mole/l, [Pu]=(8.5-9)x10-2 mole/l concentration hexavalent plutonium may be quickly (1.1-1.6 h) and completely (99.6-99.93 %) reduced up to Pu(4) at 1 A/dm2 current density. Considerations concerning possible mechanism of Pu(6)→Pu(4) reduction are presented. 7 refs., 4 figs., 2 tabs
