) Foraminiferal Biostratigraphy and Palaecology of North Apoi C Well, Offshore Western Niger Delta
Description
Foraminiferal biostratigraphic and palaeoenvironmental analysis was carried out on ditch cuttings of North Apoi C well covering a depth interval of 82m to 1929m. Seven planktonic foraminiferal zones were established. These are Globorotalia humeroza zone (N17 or Late Miocene), Globorotalia margritae zone zone (N18 or Early Pliocene), Globorotalia evoluta zone (N19 or Early Pliocene) Globorotalia exilis zone (N20 or Late Pliocene), Globorotalia tosaensis zone (N21 or Late Pliocene) and Globorotalia truncatulinoides zone (nn/23 or Pleistocene); thus dating the studied interval Late Miocene to Pleistocene.Foraminifera composition, their abundance and diversity, as well as presence of some environment indicator benthonic species, revealed fluctuating depositional environmental regimes stretching form marginal marine to upper bathyal conditions
