3-D PIXE tomography with elemental imaging of flyash samples - a preliminary investigation

  • 1. Melbourne Univ., Parkville (Australia). School of Physics

Description

Proton induced x-ray emission analyse tomography (PIXET) was used to provide 3-D images of elemental composition of a collection of flyash particles (NBS 1366 standard flyash) held in cyanoacrylate matrix. It is emphasized that in order to apply PIXET to trace elements it is necessary to drastically increase the data collection rate so that the required statistics per pixel can be achieved in a reasonable time. The most direct way to achieve this is to increase the X-ray detection efficiency. 6 refs., 2 figs
