Room air and off-air monitoring in an industrial radiochemical laboratory

Description

The room and off-air monitoring system is described. Of its 50 different measuring points, 20 are used for monitoring of soft β sources (T, 14C) and 30 for monitoring of airborne dust and absorbable airborne contaminations (197Hg, sup(125/131)I, sup(99m)Tc). The different detector types are described. Due to the different limiting values set for room and off-air contaminations, the sensitivities of the measuring instruments differ greatly. Various detectors for T, 14C, and sup(125/131)I are described. The problems of simultaneous monitoring of T and 14C in the off-air are discussed. (orig./HP)

Abstract (German)

Es wird ein Ueberblick ueber das Ab- und Raumluftueberwachungssystem gegeben. Von den 50 Raum- und Abluftmessstellen werden 20 fuer den Nachweis weicher β-Strahler (T, 14C) und 30 fuer den Nachweis staubfoermiger oder absorbierbarer Luftkontaminationen (197Hg, sup(125/131)J, sup(99m)TC) eingesetzt. Der messtechnische Aufbau der unterschiedlichen Detektorsysteme wird erlaeutert. Die zulaessigen Grenzwerte fuer Raum- und Abluftkontaminationen erfordern erhebliche Unterschiede bezueglich der Nachweisempfindlichkeit der Messgeraete. An den Beispielen T, 14C sowie sup(125/131)J wird die gewaehlte Loesung beschrieben. Insbesondere wird auf die Problematik des parallelen Nachweises von T und 14C in der Abluft eingegangen.
