Description

The invariant cross section of the deuteron stripping on a carbon target is measured at 8.9 GeV/c deuteron momentum. The cross section value obtained for the zero detection angle of the stripping proton (E/p2)x(d2σ/dpdΩ)(theta=0, p=1/2psub(d))=(281+-9)bxcsup(3)/GeVsup(2)xsr agrees with the value, calculated making use of the Bertocci-Treleani model deuteron fragmentation. A similar calculation involving the Nissen-Meyer orthogonalization method for wave functions of the initial deuteron and of the np system, formed as a result of the deuteron disintegration, gives the cross section which exceeds the measured one by a factor of 1.4
