Effect of ionizing radiation on crystals of LaF3 type
Description
Coloration of LaF3, NdF3, and PrF3 crystals during gamma-irradiation is due to formation of electron color centers. Crystals of CeF3 do not exhibit coloration during gamma-irradiation owing to the absense of deep hole traps. In LaF3 Eu3+, Yu3+, and Sm3+ ions form electron traps, whereas Ce3+, Pr3+, and Tb3+ ions form hole traps
