Stimulated bremsstrahlung in inelastic electron-atom collisions

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Fizicheskij Inst.

Description

Stimulated multiquantum emission and ahsorption on inelastic scatteAing of fast electrons by light atoms i.n an external laser field are investigated. The partial cross sections for the 1S-2S and 1S→n transitions in hydrogen-like atoms are found. The contr+bution of stimulated channels to the total excitation cross section is analyzed for the particular case of the 1S→n=2 transition at various laser radiation intensities. Analytic results are obtained in the low frequency approximation for the total photoabsorption cross section. They are of a universal nature and are valid for arbitrary one-electron models of the target atom. At nonrelativistic incident electron energies, conditions of stimulated emission of laser field quanta are possible. At energies exceeding a few MeV the process cannot occur in the inelastic channels for any value of the collision parameters
