Ambient and high-pressure structure of UAl4 prepared by solid-state reaction
- 1. Nuclear esearch Centre - Negev, Beer-Sheva (Israel)
Description
Polycrystalline UA14 was obtained by arc melting of A1-66.7 wt.% U alloy followed by a short-time solid state reaction. X-Ray Powder Diffraction (XRPD), Scanning Electron Microscope - Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), density measurements and X-Ray under high pressure were used in order to determine the exact deviation of stoichiometry in the UA14 structure. Machine ball-milled powder samples were used in order to obtain high quality XRPD data, which could be refined by the Rietveld method
