In a first part, the different possibilities for a newly produced radon atom to be released in the environment are presented. The role of radon as a tracer of pore fluids motion is emphasized. In a second part, the different techniques for radon measurements in the scope of geophysics studies are reviewed, with a special attention devoted to in situ measurements in the ground.
