Neutron shielding material

Description

Neutron shielding materials comprising a thermosetting resin such as an epoxy resin or unsaturated polyester resin blended with a polyethylene powder show an effective function to some extent but they still involve problems, for example, in heat resistance, moldability, machinability and thermal shock resistance. In view of the above, in the present invention, an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer having in the molecule hydroxyl groups reactive with epoxy groups is blended with an epoxy resin upon curing the epoxy resin by using an amine type curing agent, thereby enabling to obtain shielding materials capable of eliminating internal stresses of curing products and excellent in thermal shock resistance and machinability, as well as possessing heat resistance and the moldability inherent to the epoxy resin curing products. Further, there is no particular restriction for the amine series curing agents used, which can be used alone or as a mixture of two or more of them. (T.M.)
