Gorski effect and the form memory effect in the vanadium-hydrogen system

Description

The influence of the Gorski effect (hydrogen redistribution in a field of inhomogeneous elastic stresses) on the form memory effect in the vanadium-hydrogen system is studied. Inelastic relaxation and sag on loading a specimen of 0.6 mm thickness and 100 mm length with a permanent load different in magnitude at different temperatures. The temperatures were recorded every 5 deg, rom 220 deg to 240 deg C. The dependence of sag on load is linear for specimens containing 0.35 to 0.45 H/V at temperatures higher than the phase transformation. However, the calculated Young modulus appears to be considerably lower than the elastic modulus of non-hydrogenated vanadium that indicates an important influence of the Gorski effect. The results of the study have shown that under conditions of an inhomogeneous stressed state it is necessary to take into account the Gorski effect in the form memory interval
